Just in time for the launch of the iPad 3G, Gowalla app for iPad has just been approved by Apple is now available for download. I just had it installed on my app and one thing I can say is that Gowalla finally did something great.
I admit, in my mobile phones, I tend to use Foursquare more than Gowalla because of Foursquare’s simple interface which suits well with the small screen of my Nexus One, iPhone and BlackBerry Bold 9700. And due to the larger screen of the iPad, Gowalla’s colorful interface really suits well.

The main Gowalla page that display when you fire up the app for the first time takes full use of the iPad’s landscape screen display. The left column has all the Gowalla stuff while the main column on the right serves as display for the options you selected. While on the main page, that main column displays Google Map which is filled up by placemarks of other Gowalla users.
The iPad’s built-in GPS locator (through Wi-Fi) works well too. And the app loads fast as well.
I have yet to use Gowalla on my iPad extensively, although I could already myself using it more often whenever I’m on the go. Well, that is of course if Foursquare will not come up with something better.
You may grab Gowalla for iPad from the App Store now. (iTunes link)
