How iPad is Affecting Gaming Devices and EReaders

Mashable is running a story on the interesting result of the study made by a company called Resolve.  According to Resolve Market Research’s online study conducted across a nationally representative sample, iPad is affecting consumer’s plan of buying either a new gaming device or an ebook reader.

The study revealed that among those surveyed 49% are not going to buy a new ebook reader and 38% are not buying a new gaming device after owning an iPad.  Interestingly, this was despite the fact that most of those surveyed said that it is still most enjoyable to play games on a dedicated gaming device than the iPad.  This means that while the respondents bought the iPad not for gaming purposes, they found out that it could be a pretty decent portable gaming device. And I would have to confirm this as based on my experience, I find myself playing HD-quality games on my iPad than doing other things.

As for its effects on ereaders, the study found what all of us may have known for quite some time now. The iPad is affecting the sale of ereaders such as Amazon Kindle and B&N Nook.

So, what are your thoughts on this? If you have purchased the iPad, do you see yourself buying the Kindle or Nook in the near future? How about Nintendo DS Lite or PSP?
