iPad Apps Now Accounts 19% of All App Store Downloads

The latest research report published by ABI Research reveals that based on their estimates, there is now more than 3 billion iPad app downloads since the device was released. This figure represents 19% of the overall app store downloads so far. Historically, the iPad became available 3 years after the iPhone was released and two years right after the iOS App Store goes live. If you’ll think about it, the 3 billion cumulative iPad app downloads is pretty amazing.

Comparing this with Android tablet app downloads, ABI Research said that Android still lags behind the iPad when it comes to tablet apps. ABI Research associate Lim Shiyang said that many Android tablets are still running on older versions of Android OS which don’t really offer much apps with advanced features and functionality. The research firm believes that Android will be able to catch up only with iPad once Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is made publicly available.

ABI also mentioned that there are now approximately more than 120,000 iPad apps available on the App Store. But its tablet app data does not yet include iPhone apps which are also being downloaded on iPad.

So, how’s your inventory of installed apps on your iPad going so far? Have you been downloading apps recently?
